If you have a tight schedule but would like to get some exercise in each day, then home cardio workouts are just for you. Sure, you could become a member at the nearest health club, but you wouldn’t have the privacy that you do at home. You will also get to save money since you won’t have to pay monthly membership costs. Not to mention the amount of time you will save by not having to drive to and from the gym each day. Whatever your fitness goals are, a home cardio workout can help you achieve them.

A good warm-up will help get the blood circulating and help you avoid injury. You could walk or jog in place to get the muscles and joints warmed up. I recommend doing some dynamic stretching, such as torso twists, arm swings, half squats, high knees, and so on. Static stretches can be a part of your warm-up also, targeting the arms, hips, quadriceps, and hamstrings. You are ready to begin your workout when your body feels warm.

If you are a beginner, I would highly recommend buying some fitness DVDs. There is an entire library of them over at Amazon.com. Jillian Michaels has some wonderful DVDs, as does Holly Perkins. Following these videos is like having a personal trainer right there with you. Most are inexpensive, and require little to no equipment.

Body sculpting, kickboxing, boot camp, are all very good home cardio workouts. There are DVDs that cover all types of cardio.

Jumping jacks are one of the most basic, yet effective exercises out there. It gets a lot of muscle groups involved, and it really gets your heart rate up. Squats and lunges develop strength for the lower body, and they will also burn a lot of calories.

Another exercise is line-hops. You can take a jump rope or some other type of hurdle and place it on the ground. Next, jump off of one or two feet over the hurdle for two minutes.

Jumping rope is another simple, but intense exercise. A rope isn’t even required if you don’t have one, or if your ceiling is too low. Start jumping in place and swing your arms in a circular motion as you normally would.

Boxing workouts are some of the most intense cardio workouts you can do. An exercise that works the upper body is pivoting upper cuts. This is where you alternate upper cut punches with the right and left hand to the opposite side. With each punch, you pivot off your feet. You can even hold a light weight to add some resistance.
